Saveena Parkash Files Nomination For Pakistan National Elections

In a groundbreaking move, Saveera Parkash, a Hindu woman from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Buner district in Pakistan, has officially submitted her nomination papers for a general seat in the upcoming national elections scheduled for February 8, 2024. The elections aim to elect members of the 16th National Assembly in Pakistan.

Saveera Parkash, a member of the Hindu community, is optimistic about contesting the elections on a Pakistan People's Party (PPP) ticket, following in the footsteps of her father, Oam Parkash, a recently retired doctor and a dedicated PPP member for the past 35 years. As the general secretary of the PPP women's wing in Buner and a graduate of Abbottabad International Medical College in 2022, Saveera Parkash aims to be the first woman from Buner to submit nomination papers for a general seat.

Expressing her commitment to community welfare, Parkash emphasized her dedication to improving conditions for women, ensuring a secure environment, and advocating for their rights. She also highlighted historical neglect and suppression of women in the development sector, vowing to address these issues if elected.

In an interview with Dawn, Parkash spoke about her aspirations to follow in her father's footsteps, working for the underprivileged in the area. She submitted her nomination papers on December 23, hoping for the endorsement of her candidature by the senior leadership of the PPP. With a medical background, Parkash emphasized that her commitment to "serving humanity is in my blood," drawing from her experiences with poor management in government hospitals during her medical career.
