Kejriwal Faces NIA Probe Over Alleged Khalistan SFJ Funding

Kejriwal Faces NIA Probe Over Alleged Khalistan SFJ Funding

In a dramatic twist on Monday, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has demanded an anti-terrorism investigation into allegations that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal received political funding from the banned Sikhs For Justice group, founded by wanted terrorist Gurpatwant Pannun.

Responding swiftly, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) retaliated through senior leader Saurabh Bhardwaj, dismissing the call for a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as a "conspiracy" against the party and its leader. Bhardwaj accused the LG of being aligned with the BJP, labeling the probe as yet another attempt to undermine Kejriwal's leadership.

These allegations mark the latest episode in the ongoing and intense political rivalry between the AAP and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the center, intensifying just weeks before the national capital's general election. Notably, the BJP swept all seven of Delhi's seats in the 2019 elections.

In a comprehensive letter addressed to the Union Home Secretary, Saxena referenced a video allegedly depicting Pannun's declaration that the AAP had received a substantial $16 million in funding from Khalistani groups. The letter also cited a complaint from a Hindu religious body and social media posts by a former AAP member.

According to Saxena's letter, Kejriwal purportedly pledged to facilitate the release of Devender Pal Bhullar in exchange for significant financial support from Khalistani factions to the AAP. Bhullar, a former professor, was convicted in the 1993 Delhi bomb blasts case and initially sentenced to death in 2001, a penalty later commuted to life imprisonment.

Furthermore, it's alleged that Kejriwal received funds to advocate pro-Khalistani sentiments, deepening the controversy surrounding the AAP leader's purported links with Sikh separatist movements.
