Shaktikanta Das Appointed Principal Secretary To PM

Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a government notification issued today. His appointment will be co-terminus with the Prime Minister's tenure or until further orders.

Mr. Das, who served as RBI Governor for six years from December 2018, brings over four decades of experience in governance. He has held key positions in both central and state governments, overseeing crucial sectors such as finance, taxation, industries, and infrastructure. His tenure at the RBI was marked by major policy decisions, including efforts to stabilize the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a related development, the government has also extended the tenure of NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam by one year, starting February 24, 2025. A retired 1987-batch IAS officer, Subrahmanyam was initially appointed as the chief of the country’s premier policy think tank in February 2023 for a two-year term.

These appointments signal continuity in key policy-making roles as the government looks to navigate economic and administrative challenges in the coming years.
