India's 'Gaurav' Glide Bomb Hits Target in Successful Sukhoi Fighter Jet Test

India successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the long-range glide bomb (LRGB) 'Gaurav' from a Su-30 MK-I fighter jet of the Indian Air Force, marking a significant milestone in the nation's defense capabilities. The test was carried out off the coast of Odisha, with the bomb precisely hitting its target at Long Wheeler's Island, according to a statement by the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Indian Air Force, and industry partners for the achievement, describing it as a crucial step in advancing indigenous defense technologies to bolster the country's armed forces.

The 1,000 kg class 'Gaurav' bomb, developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad, is air-launched and designed to engage targets at long distances. The bomb navigates towards its target using a sophisticated hybrid navigation system, ensuring pinpoint accuracy.

Telemetry and electro-optical tracking systems deployed by the Integrated Test Range along the coastline captured complete flight data during the test. The flight was overseen by senior DRDO scientists, with Adani Defence and Bharat Forge, the development-cum-production partners, also participating in the trial.

DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat congratulated the entire team for the successful test.
