VP Dhankhar Warns of 'Demographic Invasion' by 20 Million Illegal Migrants

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday sounded a strong alarm over what he termed a “demographic invasion,” stating that over 20 million illegal migrants currently residing in India pose a serious threat to national security, sovereignty, and social cohesion.

Addressing the convocation ceremony at the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) in Mumbai, Dhankhar stressed that the issue of illegal migration has transcended the boundaries of law and order and now challenges the very foundation of India’s national integrity.

“When the sanctity of our border is breached by unchecked illegal migrants, it is not merely a law enforcement concern — it becomes a question of our survival,” he asserted.

Dhankhar cautioned the graduating students and faculty about the long-term dangers posed by unauthorized demographic shifts. “Always beware of such challenges when demographic balances are manipulated — not through natural societal evolution, but by sinister, orchestrated design,” he warned.

The Vice President pointed to the immense burden placed on national resources by illegal migrants, including pressure on employment, public services, and internal security. “These people make a huge demand on our national resources. They take work from our hands and make our sovereignty vulnerable,” he said, calling for urgent policy and administrative measures to protect national interests.

Dhankhar’s comments come amid ongoing debates around border control, citizenship policies, and demographic changes, particularly in the northeastern and border states.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel was also present at the convocation.

In a more personal gesture, the Vice President and his wife, Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, planted saplings at the IIPS campus in memory of their late mothers, Kesari Devi and Bhagwati Devi, highlighting the importance of sustainability and remembrance.
