Amid intensifying conflict in the Middle East, a senior Iranian military official has claimed that Pakistan has pledged to retaliate with nuclear force if Israel uses a nuclear weapon against Iran. The assertion was made by General Mohsen Rezaei, a top commander in Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and a member of the country’s National Security Council.
Speaking on Iranian state television, Rezaei stated, “Pakistan has assured us that if Israel uses a nuclear bomb on Iran, they will attack Israel with a nuclear bomb.” The claim, made as missiles crisscrossed Iranian and Israeli airspace, has heightened fears of a broader regional war.
Both Israel and Pakistan are declared nuclear states, part of a select group of nine nations known to possess nuclear weapons, according to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).
Rezaei added that Pakistan had expressed firm solidarity with Tehran, calling for Muslim unity in the face of Israeli aggression. “We stand by Iran in every way; we will protect Iranian interests,” Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said earlier, though he made no mention of nuclear retaliation.
So far, there has been no official confirmation from Pakistan regarding the alleged nuclear pledge. Analysts suggest such statements are likely more reflective of diplomatic alignment and regional solidarity than any formal military agreement.
Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed he is working to broker a peace deal between Iran and Israel, though the U.S. has publicly maintained a policy of military restraint in the ongoing confrontation.
With tensions escalating rapidly and nuclear rhetoric entering the discourse, international observers fear the conflict may spiral into a catastrophic war involving multiple global powers.
