Kejriwal Granted Bail Amidst Liquor Policy Allegations

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail in the liquor policy case. Kejriwal's lawyer argued that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) lacked evidence against him. The ED intends to appeal the trial court's order in the Delhi High Court tomorrow, according to ANI.

Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief, will be released from jail tomorrow, once the bail order reaches the facility.

In court, Kejriwal's lawyer contended that the ED's case relied solely on statements from individuals who had turned approvers. The court denied the ED's request for a 48-hour delay to sign the bail bond, intended to allow the central agency time to challenge the decision.

"The statements are from individuals who have confessed to being guilty. They are not saints; they are tainted individuals. Some were promised bail or a pardon upon their arrest," Kejriwal's lawyer argued earlier in the day. After these arguments, the court reserved its order and announced the bail around 8 pm.

Kejriwal's lawyer emphasized the lack of direct evidence connecting Kejriwal to the alleged crimes. "Circumstances must be intrinsically linked to indicate guilt. These statements from tainted persons undermine the prosecution's case. There is no evidence that ?100 crore came from the 'South Group.' These are merely statements without supporting evidence," he stated, referring to the alleged conspiracy by a lobby from Telangana to secure liquor licenses in Delhi.

The bail decision marks a significant development in the case, which has been closely watched due to Kejriwal's high-profile status and the broader implications for the AAP. The ED's appeal will likely add further legal twists to the ongoing investigation.

As the situation unfolds, Kejriwal's anticipated release and the ED's upcoming appeal will continue to draw public and political attention. The case highlights the contentious nature of the allegations and the legal battles that lie ahead.
