Governments led by the BJP and its ally, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), will take charge of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, respectively, following the swearing-in ceremonies held today.

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu took oath as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth time after his party's significant victory in the Assembly polls held alongside the general election. Twenty-four members of his cabinet were also sworn in.

The ceremony on the outskirts of Vijayawada was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP chief and Health Minister JP Nadda. Prime Minister Modi congratulated Naidu with a hug after his oath.

In addition to Naidu, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan took the oath and is expected to be appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister. Jana Sena, an NDA ally, won 21 seats in the Assembly polls. Nara Lokesh, TDP leader and Naidu's son, also took the oath along with 22 others.

Naidu's TDP is a crucial ally that helped the BJP form the government despite falling short of the majority mark of 272 seats. In the Modi 3.0 cabinet, the TDP has been allotted a cabinet minister berth and a Minister of State post. Naidu has pledged unwavering support to the NDA government led by Prime Minister Modi.

The NDA alliance, comprising TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP, won 164 seats in the 175-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly. The alliance also performed strongly in the Lok Sabha elections, securing 21 of Andhra's 25 seats and significantly weakening the incumbent YSR Congress Party.

In Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi will take the oath as Chief Minister in an afternoon ceremony, which is also expected to be attended by Prime Minister Modi.

The BJP's victory in Odisha marks the end of a two-decade rule by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and its leader Naveen Patnaik, who narrowly missed out on becoming the country's longest-serving Chief Minister. The BJP's Chief Minister pick, Mohan Charan Majhi, is a four-time MLA and a tribal leader elected from the Keonjhar Assembly seat.

The BJP has chosen KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida as Deputy Chief Ministers. KV Singh Deo, a six-time MLA from a royal family, was previously a minister in the Naveen Patnaik government when the BJP and BJD were allies. Pravati Parida, a first-time MLA, has led the state BJP women's wing.

These developments signal a significant shift in the political landscape of both Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, with the BJP and its allies consolidating their power and setting the stage for new governance in these states.
