China Reaffirms Support for Pakistan

China on Saturday reaffirmed its continued support for Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid rising tensions in South Asia, even as global powers welcomed the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

In a phone call with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed Beijing’s unwavering backing of its “iron-clad” ally. "China will continue to stand firmly by Pakistan in upholding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence," said Wang, according to a statement from Pakistan's Foreign Office.

Wang Yi also appreciated Pakistan’s “restraint” and “responsible approach” during the recent escalation, following a series of cross-border strikes and retaliatory actions that brought the two nuclear-armed neighbours to the brink of full-scale war.

The conversation came as Dar held diplomatic engagements with several key nations. He also spoke with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, who welcomed the ceasefire and expressed hope for sustained peace between India and Pakistan.

Similarly, Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was briefed on the evolving regional scenario, with both sides calling for de-escalation and dialogue.

The ceasefire, announced on Saturday, was brokered by the United States, as confirmed by President Donald Trump. “We’ve helped facilitate a full and immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan,” Trump said, crediting backchannel diplomacy for the breakthrough.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, commending their “wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”

The truce came just hours after both sides launched strikes on military facilities, triggering fears of wider conflict. As of Sunday evening, the ceasefire appears to be holding with cautious optimism prevailing in the region.
