BJP empower Parliamentary Board to take decision on its President

BJP empower Parliamentary Board to take decision on its President

The BJP's recent national convention saw an amendment to the party's constitution, granting authority to its apex body, the Parliamentary Board, to make decisions regarding the party president, including their term and extensions, in "emergency" situations. This proposal, put forward by General Secretary Sunil Bansal, was passed during the convention.

Typically, the party president is elected through internal polls conducted across various levels of the party's organizational structure. However, during periods of intense preparation for assembly or Lok Sabha elections, adhering to this process becomes challenging.

Presently, J P Nadda holds the position of party president, with his tenure extended until June 30, primarily due to the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. While the specifics and reasons behind this constitutional amendment were not disclosed by the party, sources suggest it may relate to future appointments of party presidents.

Additionally, the convention witnessed the passing of three resolutions. Speculations abound that several leaders from different political backgrounds, including the Congress, may join the BJP in the coming weeks. Notably, there are talks of MP Nakul Nath, son of senior Congress leader Kamal Nath, potentially joining the BJP, with rumors swirling around the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister's possible entry into the party.

Furthermore, there have been instances of other Congress leaders, both former Union ministers and current MPs, switching allegiance to the BJP, especially in regions where the BJP aims to bolster its presence.

Post-convention, a meeting of BJP chief ministers and deputy chief ministers was convened to strategize and discuss plans to secure 370 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President J P Nadda were present at this meeting to outline the party's electoral strategy.
