Khalistanis Have Polluted Canada: Chandra Arya

Chandra Arya, a prominent Canadian MP of Indian origin, voiced concerns on Wednesday about Khalistani extremists "polluting" the country by "abusing" the freedoms provided under the Charter of Rights. This statement follows the recent vandalism of a Hindu temple in Edmonton amidst rising Hinduphobia in Canada. The BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir was defaced with alleged hateful and anti-India graffiti on Monday morning in Edmonton, Alberta, approximately 3,400 km from Ottawa.

Arya, representing Nepean in the House of Commons, shared on his X account that Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs for Justice had released a video urging Arya and his Hindu-Canadian friends to return to India after Arya condemned the temple vandalism and other hate acts by Khalistan supporters in Canada.

"Hindus have come to our wonderful country Canada from all parts of the world. From every country in South Asia, many countries in Africa and the Caribbean, and many other regions, we have settled here, and Canada is our land," Arya, a member of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party, stated.

"We have made and continue to make immense positive and productive contributions to the socio-economic development of Canada. With our long history of Hindu culture and heritage, we have enriched the multicultural fabric of Canada," he added.

Arya expressed his concern, "Our land is being polluted by Khalistani extremists abusing our freedoms guaranteed by our Canadian Charter of Rights."

His remarks come amidst significant tension in India-Canada relations following the killing of Khalistan extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot in Surrey, British Columbia, in June last year.
