INDIA Bloc's To Stage Big Protest Against Budget 2024 In Parliament

The INDIA bloc parties are staging protests today, both inside and outside Parliament, against what they describe as "discrimination" against opposition-ruled states in the recently unveiled Union Budget. The protests follow a high-level meeting attended by several prominent leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress' deputy leaders in both houses Pramod Tiwari and Gaurav Gogoi, NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, TMC's Derek O'Brien and Kalyan Banerjee, DMK's TR Baalu, JMM's Mahua Maji, AAP's Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh, and CPI(M)'s John Brittas. Congress general secretaries KC Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh were also present.

KC Venugopal voiced the collective sentiment of the INDIA bloc following the meeting, stating, "The concept of a budget has already been destroyed by this year's Union Budget. They have completely discriminated against most of the states. So, the general sentiment of the INDIA bloc meeting was we have to protest against this." Venugopal later took to social media, describing the budget as "extremely discriminatory and dangerous," arguing that it goes against the principles of federalism and fairness.

In a significant move, Congress chief ministers have decided to boycott the NITI Aayog meeting scheduled for July 27. Venugopal criticized the government's approach, saying, "This government's attitude is completely antithetical to Constitutional principles. We will not participate in an event that is solely designed to hide the true, discriminatory colors of this regime."

The protests are part of a broader strategy by the INDIA bloc to highlight what they perceive as unjust treatment of opposition-ruled states in the Union Budget. The leaders argue that the budget allocations favor states ruled by the governing party, undermining the federal structure of the country. They also contend that the budget fails to address critical issues faced by their states, exacerbating regional disparities.

The protests aim to draw attention to these concerns and urge the government to adopt a more equitable approach in its budgetary policies. The INDIA bloc hopes that their collective action will galvanize public support and pressure the government to reconsider its stance.
