SRK, Vikrant Share Best Actor Honour at 71st National Film Awards

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has bagged his first-ever National Film Award for Best Actor for his powerful performance in the 2023 blockbuster Jawan. The honour was shared with Vikrant Massey for his moving portrayal in 12th Fail, which also clinched the Best Feature Film award. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting announced the 71st National Film Awards on Friday evening, following the jury’s report submission, led by filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker.

Rani Mukerji won the Best Actress award for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, calling it a validation of her three-decade-long journey in cinema. Sudipto Sen was named Best Director for the hard-hitting The Kerala Story.

Karan Johar’s romantic drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was honoured as Best Popular Film for Wholesome Entertainment. Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur secured the award for Best Feature Film promoting national, social, and environmental values, and also won accolades for costume and make-up.

Among regional cinema, Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery was adjudged Best Hindi Film, Kandeelu won Best Kannada Film, Ullozhukku was named Best Malayalam Film, and Shyamchi Aai took Best Marathi Film.

In supporting roles, Vijayaraghavan (Pookkaalam), Somu Bhaskar (Parking), Urvashi (Ullozhukku), and Janki Bodiwala (Vash) were honoured. The Best Debut Director award went to Ashish Bende for Aatmapamphlet.

In the non-feature category, Flowering Man won Best Film, while Sunflowers Were the First One to Know took Best Script. Hanu-Man won Best VFX/Animation. Balagam received Best Lyrics, Animal won Best Sound Design, and Naal 2 was named Best Children’s Film.
