RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, addressing a gathering at SAI Ground in Bardhaman, underscored the necessity of uniting Hindu society, which he described as the "responsible" society of India. He stated that the essence of Bharat lies in its diversity, and Hindu society inherently understands that "diversity itself is unity."
Responding to those questioning the focus on Hindu society, Bhagwat asserted that it plays a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s identity and values. He remarked that Bharat is not just a geographical entity but a civilization built on the principles of unity, tolerance, and acceptance of differences.
Highlighting India's cultural ethos, Bhagwat pointed out that Indian society reveres not its emperors and rulers but individuals who upheld moral values. He cited the example of Lord Ram, who embraced exile for 14 years to honor his father's promise, and his brother Bharata, who ruled only as a caretaker, symbolizing selflessness and integrity.
Bhagwat noted that while rulers and administrators serve their roles, it is society’s collective responsibility to ensure the nation's progress. He warned that challenges will persist regardless of the times, emphasizing the importance of preparedness to overcome them.
Reflecting on historical invasions, he remarked that external forces had ruled India not due to their superiority but because of internal divisions. He criticized colonial narratives that sought to instill a sense of disunity among Indians, asserting that the British did not create India; rather, India has been a unified civilization for centuries.
The rally, initially denied permission by Bengal Police, was held following approval from the Calcutta High Court. Bhagwat’s address reinforced the call for societal harmony and the importance of a united, self-aware Hindu society in shaping the nation's future.
