Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sacred dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati in Prayagraj on Wednesday morning. Dressed in a saffron jacket and blue trackpants, he clasped ‘rudraksha’ beads while chanting prayers, submerging himself in the holy waters multiple times.
Before the ritual, PM Modi took a boat tour of the Sangam, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. As he stepped into the river, thousands of devotees gathered along the banks, eager to witness the moment. Sharing his experience on social media, he expressed his deep spiritual connection, stating, “The Snan at the Sangam is a moment of divine connection. May Maa Ganga bless all with peace, wisdom, and harmony.”
His visit coincides with a crucial Assembly election in Delhi, where his party, the BJP, is vying to unseat the ruling AAP. Earlier in the day, he urged Delhi voters to participate in the democratic process with enthusiasm.
This Maha Kumbh has seen massive participation from devotees worldwide, though it was marred by a tragic stampede a week ago, claiming 30 lives. The government has invested significantly in infrastructure, security, and sanitation, ensuring a seamless experience for visitors.
Notably, Home Minister Amit Shah also performed the ritual last week, underscoring the event’s spiritual and cultural significance. Additionally, Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk visited the Kumbh, accompanied by CM Yogi Adityanath. He explored the Digital Mahakumbh Experience Centre and offered prayers at the Lete Hanuman Mandir.
With grand festivities, global participation, and political undercurrents, the Maha Kumbh continues to be a spectacle of faith, tradition, and governance.
