Pakistan Army Chief Visits Balochistan Amid Rising Clashes

Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, visited Balochistan on Saturday following a surge in violence that claimed the lives of 18 security personnel and 23 terrorists within 24 hours.

During his visit, Gen Munir was briefed on the security situation alongside senior military and intelligence officials. Accompanied by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, he attended the funeral prayers for the fallen soldiers and met injured personnel at the Combined Military Hospital in Quetta.

Addressing the forces, Gen Munir reaffirmed the army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring stability in Balochistan. "No matter what these so-called 'frenemies' may do, you will surely be defeated by the resilience of our proud nation and its armed forces," he asserted.

The latest military operations saw intense clashes between security forces and militants across multiple districts. In Harnai, national troops killed 11 terrorists and destroyed their hideouts, while another 12 militants were neutralized in Kalat's Mangocher area after attempting to block key roads. The military confirmed that ongoing sanitization operations will continue to eliminate perpetrators and facilitators.

Balochistan remains a flashpoint for insurgency, with separatist groups frequently targeting security forces and civilians from other provinces. The region, rich in natural resources, remains underdeveloped and plagued by violence.

The resurgence in terrorist activity follows the collapse of a fragile ceasefire with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). With 444 attacks and 685 security personnel killed, 2024 has been the deadliest year for Pakistan’s forces in a decade.

As security challenges mount, Pakistan's military remains engaged in counterterrorism operations to restore peace in the troubled province.
