Israel will permanently Eliminate Hamas: Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Friday that the Gaza war would persist until Hamas's ability to govern and wage war is eradicated, following US President Joe Biden's announcement of a new peace roadmap proposed by Israel. Netanyahu's office stated that the negotiating team had been authorized to present a framework for the return of hostages while ensuring that the war's objectives, including the elimination of Hamas's military and governmental capabilities, are fully achieved.

The statement from Netanyahu's office emphasized that Israel's proposed plan, which includes conditional transitions between stages, allows the country to uphold these principles. In a significant address, President Biden outlined a solution to the eight-month conflict, proposing a six-week phase during which Israeli forces would withdraw from all populated areas of Gaza. Biden urged for the war to end and for efforts toward peace to commence, stating, "It's time for this war to end, for the day after to begin."

The Gaza war began following a Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, resulting in 1,189 deaths, primarily civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures. Additionally, militants captured 252 hostages, with 121 still held in Gaza, including 37 whom the Israeli army reports as dead.

In response, Israel launched a retaliatory offensive that has claimed at least 36,284 lives in Gaza, mostly civilians, as reported by the Hamas-run territory's health ministry.
