Israel Strike Syria

In a recent Israeli strike on Damascus, five people were killed in a building where leaders aligned with Iran were reportedly meeting, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based war monitor. The targeted neighborhood is known for its high-security status and is home to leaders of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and pro-Iran Palestinian factions. The Observatory director, Rami Abdel Rahman, indicated that the strike was aimed at senior members of these groups.

The mid-morning attack, causing a significant plume of smoke, was also reported by Syrian state media. The official SANA news agency confirmed an Israeli aggression targeting a residential building in the Mazzeh neighborhood in Damascus. The extent of casualties was not specified.

An AFP correspondent on-site observed the destroyed building cordoned off, with rescue teams present. Civil defense teams were actively searching for survivors amidst the rubble of the completely collapsed structure.

The Mazzeh area, where the strike occurred, houses the United Nations' headquarters, embassies, and restaurants. A resident in the western Mazzeh area reported hearing the explosion and witnessing a large cloud of smoke. Tensions in the region have heightened amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
