In a resounding victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ended the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) decade-long rule in Delhi, marking its return to power in the city after 26 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the electoral outcome as “historic,” emphasizing that Delhiites have decisively rejected AAP’s governance and embraced the promise of a “double-engine” government.
Addressing a jubilant crowd at the BJP headquarters, Modi stated, “The people of Delhi have shown the door to ‘AAP-da.’ This is not just a political win but a moment of liberation for Delhiites. The capital is now ‘AAP-da mukt.’” He credited the victory to the trust people have placed in “Modi ki guarantee,” vowing rapid development with the BJP governing both the city and the Centre.
Throughout the campaign, Modi had repeatedly termed AAP’s rule as an “AAP-da” (disaster), accusing the party of corruption, mismanagement, and treating Delhi as personal property. “The people of Delhi have short-circuited the politics of short-cuts,” he remarked, adding that the mandate was a rejection of empty promises and political theatrics.
The election results delivered a severe blow to Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership, with several top AAP figures struggling to retain their seats. The party, once a formidable force in Delhi, faced an unprecedented collapse, reinforcing the BJP’s expanding influence across urban India.
With this victory, the BJP has set its sights on implementing a comprehensive development agenda for the capital, promising better infrastructure, governance, and transparency. As celebrations erupted across the city, the message was clear—Delhi has chosen change, stability, and a future driven by progress.
