Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday highlighted the BJP’s unique position as a party rooted in democracy and driven by its workers, not dynastic control. Speaking at a party event in Nagpur, Fadnavis underscored that among India’s 2,300 registered political parties, the BJP stands apart as the only national party that a family doesn’t own.
“There are only two parties in India—the BJP and the Communist Party of India—that aren’t controlled by dynasties. However, the Communist Party of India has lost its national party status, leaving BJP as the sole national party owned by its workers,” Fadnavis stated.
He attributed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rise from modest beginnings to the party’s democratic ethos. “In the BJP, a boy who sold tea can become the Chief Minister of Gujarat and then the Prime Minister of India. Modi had no political godfather or family connections, yet he rose to lead the nation,” he said.
Sharing his own journey, Fadnavis reflected on how he progressed from a booth-level worker to becoming Maharashtra’s Chief Minister thrice, crediting the BJP’s commitment to meritocracy. “This is a party where hard work and dedication are recognized,” he added.
Launching a special membership drive in Nagpur, Fadnavis announced that the BJP has already verified and enrolled 11 crore members, making it the largest political party in the world. Maharashtra has been tasked with enrolling 1.5 crore members, with 25 lakh targeted in a single day through the drive conducted at over one lakh booths across the state.
“This is not just a membership campaign; it’s a movement to connect people with a party that truly belongs to its workers and the public,” Fadnavis concluded.
