Sadanand Vasant Date has been appointed as the Director General of the NIA

Sadanand Vasant Date, the chief of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad, has been appointed as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as per a Personnel Ministry order. Date, a 1990-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Maharashtra cadre, has been selected by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for a tenure until his superannuation on December 31, 2026. He will succeed Dinkar Gupta, who is set to retire on March 31.

Additionally, Rajeev Kumar Sharma, a 1990-batch IPS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed as the Director General of the Bureau of Police Research & Development by the ACC. Sharma's tenure will last until his superannuation on June 30, 2026. He will take over from Balaji Srivastava, whose term ends in March.

Piyush Anand, a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre and the current Special DG of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), has been designated as the new chief of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Anand's appointment as the DG of NDRF is for two years, replacing Atul Karwal, who retires on March 31.

These appointments signify the government's focus on strengthening key security and investigative agencies with competent and seasoned leadership, ensuring effective management and execution of their respective mandates and responsibilities.
