RG Hospital protest is a Conspiracy by Centre, Left parties: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday alleged that the Centre was conspiring in the public outcry surrounding the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month. She also claimed that certain Left parties were involved in the unrest.

Speaking at an administrative review meeting at the state secretariat, Nabanna, Banerjee dismissed rumors that her government had offered money to the family of the deceased postgraduate trainee doctor. She called the claims slanderous, asserting that she had only offered support if they wished to memorialize their daughter.

"This protest is definitely a conspiracy by the Centre, with some Left parties also involved," Banerjee said, adding that external forces were exploiting the situation. She urged people to return to their daily lives as the festive season, particularly Durga Puja, approaches.

Banerjee, who also oversees the home department, revealed that Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal had offered to resign in light of the ongoing protests, but she declined, stating that his experience in law and order was crucial ahead of Durga Puja.

The Chief Minister also appealed to junior doctors to return to work, stressing the need for the healthcare system to function smoothly.

The controversy stems from the discovery of the doctor's body on August 9, with allegations that she was raped and murdered while on duty. The incident has sparked nationwide protests, with widespread demands for justice.

Banerjee's comments come amidst heightened tensions as the case continues to attract national attention and scrutiny, while political blame games further complicate the situation.
