Ram Mandir Rath Yatra Set to Begin in the United States

The Ram Mandir Rath Yatra is set to commence from Chicago in the United States on Monday, embarking on a journey to visit 851 temples across 48 states, covering over 8,000 miles within the next 60 days. Organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America (VHPA), the yatra will feature a specially constructed chariot, fashioned from a Toyota Sienna van, carrying statues of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman. Additionally, it will transport sacred prasadam from the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and a kalash of Prana Pratishtha Pujit Akshat.

Amitabh Mittal, the VHPA's general secretary, expressed the profound significance of the Ram Mandir's inauguration, stating that it has brought immense joy to the hearts of over 1.5 billion Hindus worldwide, revitalizing their faith and enthusiasm. The yatra's primary aim is to raise awareness, educate, and empower Hindu Dharma, as articulated by Tejal Shah from the Hindu Mandir Empowerment Council (HMEC), the apex body for temples in the United States.

The Ratha Yatra's itinerary includes visits to 851 temples in the USA and approximately 150 temples in Canada. The Canadian leg of the yatra is organized separately by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of Canada and will cover numerous temples across the country. Shah emphasized the importance of unity among Hindus, particularly in promoting awareness and spreading Hindu Dharma globally, highlighting the significance of engaging the future generation in these efforts.

Mittal mentioned that several dozen volunteers have registered with the VHPA to aid in planning and organizing the yatra. This unprecedented event marks the first time such a comprehensive yatra has been orchestrated in the US, encompassing over 800 temples nationwide, from major landmarks to smaller local sanctuaries.

The yatra will culminate on April 23, coinciding with Shree Hanuman Jayanti, at Sugar Grove, Illinois. Every temple, regardless of size, will be visited during the yatra, reflecting the inclusive nature of the initiative. Temples that participated in the Ram Mandir's inauguration ceremonies in the US will receive certificates of participation, acknowledging their role in the historic event.

Tejal Shah added that the yatra symbolizes gratitude and blessings, featuring the Ram Lala’s pratikurti from Bharat, along with akshat and kalash significant in Hindu culture. Overall, the Ram Mandir Rath Yatra stands as a testament to the unity, devotion, and cultural richness of the Hindu community across North America.
