Rajnath Singh believes people in PoK will voluntarily join India

In an exclusive interview with PTI, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed confidence that India's claim on Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir (PoK) remains steadfast, emphasizing that the region rightfully belongs to India. Singh highlighted the significant progress and development witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing it to the improved ground situation and economic growth. He suggested that as Kashmir flourishes under Indian governance, the people of PoK would naturally desire integration with India, negating the need for forceful capture.

Singh projected a vision where the inhabitants of PoK would willingly seek to merge with India, driven by the example set by Kashmir's development and peace. He emphasized that such sentiments are already emerging among the populace of PoK. Asserting India's rightful claim over PoK, Singh reiterated that the territory has been, is, and will continue to be an integral part of India.

Regarding the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Singh hinted at the eventual withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), indicating the diminishing need for such stringent measures. He indicated that the decision regarding AFSPA rests with the Union Home Ministry, suggesting a gradual transition based on the evolving ground realities.

Singh confirmed the intention to hold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir in the foreseeable future, although he refrained from specifying a timeline. He underscored the positive trajectory of developments in the region, expressing optimism about the potential cessation of AFSPA and the restoration of normalcy.

Overall, Singh's remarks underscored India's commitment to peacefully resolve the issue of PoK while emphasizing the transformative impact of development and peacebuilding efforts in Jammu and Kashmir.
