Kamala Harris Gains Strong 38-Point Lead Over Trump with Asian American Voters

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is leading by a significant 38-point margin over her Republican challenger, Donald Trump, among Asian American voters, according to a poll by NORC at the University of Chicago. The poll, the first since President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July, reveals that Harris has expanded Biden’s previous 15-point lead among this voter group.

As of now, 66% of Asian American voters plan to vote for Harris, while 28?ck Trump. The remaining 6% are either undecided or support other candidates. This marks a significant shift since the 2024 Asian American Voter Survey (AAVS), where Biden led Trump by 46% to 31%.

Harris' favorability among Asian American voters has notably increased, with 62% viewing her positively—an 18-point rise since the spring. In contrast, Trump’s favorability has dropped, with only 28% holding a positive opinion of him compared to 70% who view him unfavorably.

The poll also shows Harris' running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is more popular among Asian American voters than Trump’s vice-presidential nominee, JD Vance. Fifty-six percent of respondents have a favorable view of Walz, compared to just 21% for Vance.

Interestingly, 38% of Asian American voters say Harris’ identity as a woman is “extremely” or “very” important to them, while 27?el the same about her Asian Indian or South Asian identity.

The survey also highlighted that Asian American voters are more likely to have been contacted by the Democratic Party than the Republican Party, suggesting a stronger outreach by Democrats ahead of the November 5 election.
