India Urges US Action Against Khalistani Terrorist Group

India Urges US Action Against Khalistani Terrorist Group

India has reiterated its demand for action against the banned Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and its US-based founder, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who faces multiple criminal cases in India, including terrorism charges.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh raised this concern during his meeting with Tulsi Gabbard, the US Director of National Intelligence, in Delhi. The discussion covered intelligence sharing and defence cooperation, with Singh emphasizing the threat posed by anti-India groups operating from foreign soil.

Ms. Gabbard, who also met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, addressed ways to enhance intelligence collaboration. Sources indicate Mr. Doval specifically highlighted the activities of Khalistani elements based in the US.

India has repeatedly urged Western nations, including the US, Canada, and the UK, to curb pro-Khalistan activities that exploit democratic freedoms to threaten India’s security. The issue was also discussed during recent India-New Zealand talks, with India warning against misuse of free speech for glorifying terrorism.

The call for action follows growing tensions over allegations against India. The US accused an ex-Indian intelligence officer of plotting to assassinate Pannun, while Canada previously linked Indian agents to the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Nijjar. India has denied both claims. A Canadian inquiry recently admitted there was “no definitive link” between Nijjar’s death and India.

Meanwhile, a high-level Indian committee has recommended legal action against the former intelligence officer named in the US indictment.

Ms. Gabbard underscored the deepening ties between the two nations. She emphasized the close relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump, highlighting their shared vision for stronger Indo-US cooperation.
