Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced that over 97 crore voters are eligible to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, emphasizing the importance of every eligible voter casting their vote. He highlighted the Election Commission's preparations, including the setup of 10.5 lakh polling stations nationwide, manned by 1.5 crore personnel and equipped with 55 lakh Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

During the press conference, Kumar introduced the two new Election Commissioners, Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, and expressed confidence in delivering a historic and impartial election that would enhance India's reputation globally.

The Chief Election Commissioner emphasized the Commission's track record, having conducted 17 Lok Sabha elections, 16 Presidential elections, and more than 400 assembly elections, ensuring peaceful and transparent electoral processes. He disclosed that there are 97.8 crore eligible voters, including 49.72 crore male voters, 47.1 crore female voters, and 1.82 crore first-time voters.

Kumar lauded the peaceful conduct of the last 11 state elections, which witnessed minimal violence and re-polls, and pledged to further improve the electoral process's integrity and efficiency.

Comparing with the 2019 Lok Sabha polls held in seven phases, where 91.2 crore voters were eligible and a voter turnout of 67.4%, Kumar highlighted the significant increase in eligible voters for the upcoming elections. He also mentioned the previous election results, where the BJP emerged victorious with 303 seats, followed by Congress with 52 seats, Trinamool Congress with 22 seats, and other parties securing seats as well.

The Election Commission's commitment to conducting free, fair, and secure elections resonated throughout the announcement, with a focus on encouraging voter participation and ensuring that the democratic process reflects the will of the people.
