Pro-Iran Troops Bombed In Iraq

The Middle East remains tense as a military base in central Iraq housing army troops and pro-Iranian paramilitaries was bombed overnight amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. The attack, which the US military denied involvement in, resulted in one death and eight injuries at the Calso base. Hashed al-Shaabi, a former pro-Iranian paramilitary group now part of Iraq's security forces, suffered casualties and material losses.

The bombing targeted warehouses storing equipment, weapons, and vehicles, according to ministry sources. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. The incident follows recent clashes between Iran and Israel, including Israel's attack on Iran's embassy in Syria, Iran's subsequent drone and missile strikes on Israel, and Israel's drone attack on Iranian soil near Isfahan.

Iran's Foreign Minister downplayed the drone attack, stating there was no proven link to Israel and referring to the drones as "toys." Despite reports of missiles being fired, Iran claimed they had shot down drones but had not experienced a missile attack.

The situation underscores the ongoing hostility and potential for further escalation between Iran and Israel, highlighting the volatile nature of the region.
