Sam Altman To Join Microsoft After OpenAI Sacking

Microsoft has announced the recruitment of former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and former president Greg Brockman to lead a new advanced research team in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The move follows Altman's recent dismissal from OpenAI, a company he co-founded, and comes after Microsoft's commitment to its ongoing partnership with OpenAI. Satya Nadella, Microsoft's CEO, expressed confidence in their product roadmap and commitment to innovation.

Nadella stated that Altman would serve as the CEO of the new AI research team. This development transpired shortly after Altman's abrupt termination from OpenAI, revealed in a post by Brockman. According to Brockman, Altman was dismissed over a Google Meet call, and he subsequently resigned from the company.

The official statement from Microsoft-backed OpenAI cited Altman's departure as a result of a board review, concluding that he was not consistently candid in communications, hindering the board's ability to fulfill its responsibilities. The tech industry was taken aback by these developments, and reports suggested efforts by major investors to bring Altman back, which stalled due to Altman's demands for sweeping changes, including the removal of current board members, as a condition for his return.
