A video of Red Fort bomber Dr Umar Nabi, in which he describes suicide bombing as a “martyrdom operation”, has surfaced during the ongoing probe into the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) module behind the Delhi blast. Investigators told The Indian Express that the clip was retrieved from Umar’s mobile phone, which he had allegedly asked his younger brother to dispose of after the attack. The brother, picked up from the family’s Pulwama home on the night of the explosion, is said to have confessed that he dumped the device on Umar’s instructions. His elder brother is also in custody.
The video has triggered strong political and religious responses. AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi condemned Umar’s justification, stressing that suicide is “haram” in Islam and that killing innocents is a “grave sin”. In a post on X, Owaisi said such acts are not “misunderstood” but constitute “terrorism and nothing else”, and violate both religious tenets and the law.
He also questioned the Union government over the emergence of the module and the sizeable cache of explosives recovered around Delhi. Citing earlier assurances in Parliament that no Kashmiri youth had joined terror ranks recently, Owaisi asked, “Where did this group come from, and who is accountable for the failure to detect it?”
