New Milestones: India-UAE Partnership Soars to Remarkable Levels

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on a two-day visit to the UAE, emphasizing the robust foundation of bilateral relations and economic collaboration between the two nations. This visit marks the culmination of five high-level exchanges between India and the UAE since July 2023, reflecting an upward trajectory in their relationship.

During PM Modi's previous visit to Abu Dhabi, significant Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were inked, spanning various sectors such as local currency settlement, payment systems, renewable energy, and healthcare innovations. Similarly, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's visit to Gujarat this year resulted in the signing of multiple agreements, further solidifying cooperation.

India and the UAE stand as pivotal trading partners, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $85 billion in the fiscal year 2022-23. Moreover, the UAE ranks among the top four investors in India in terms of foreign direct investments during the same period.

The UAE's inclusion as a special invitee at the G20 Summit during India's Presidency underscores the growing diplomatic ties between the two nations. Additionally, the formal launch of the India-UAE-France (UFI) trilateral in February 2023 signifies a strategic partnership in addressing global challenges.

India's proactive role facilitated the UAE's accession as a dialogue partner in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in May 2023, and its membership in the BRICS alliance as of January 1, supported by India, further solidifies their multilateral cooperation.

Notably, defense collaboration between India and the UAE has seen a marked increase in recent years. In January 2024, the inaugural India-UAE bilateral army exercise 'Desert Cyclone' was conducted in Rajasthan, exemplifying the deepening military ties.

Prime Minister Modi's visit underscores the multifaceted nature of the India-UAE relationship, spanning economic, diplomatic, and defense domains. It symbolizes a commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues of cooperation for mutual benefit and regional stability.
