Modi govt have destroyed jawan & kisan: Kharge

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Modi government, accusing it of harming both farmers and soldiers during its 10-year tenure. Speaking at a Punjab Congress workers' convention, Kharge expressed solidarity with the farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' movement and criticized the government for not formally repealing the three contentious farm laws.

Highlighting the year-long protests by farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh at Delhi's border points against the now-repealed laws, Kharge reiterated the Congress's stance against these laws. He specifically mentioned the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act as the laws in question.

Kharge invoked former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri's iconic slogan, "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan," stating that Punjab embodies this sentiment due to its significant presence of both soldiers and farmers. However, he accused the Modi government of neglecting the welfare of both groups over the past decade.

Kharge criticized Prime Minister Modi for allegedly disparaging farmers by labeling them as "terrorists" and "andolan jeevis" (agitators) in derogatory terms. He questioned the government's failure to issue formal notifications regarding the repeal of the farm laws despite their suspension following widespread protests.
