Mixed Signals from Trump Administration After Strikes on Iran Spark Global Alarm

A day after the United States bombed Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, the Trump administration sent conflicting messages—balancing threats of regime change with talk of renewed diplomacy. President Donald Trump took to Truth Social, declaring, “If the current Iranian regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime Change?? MIGA!!!” The post sharply contrasted with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s earlier statement that the mission “was not about regime change.”

The U.S. strikes, dubbed Operation Midnight Hammer, were launched with precision and deception, involving stealth bombers and decoys. Air Force Gen. Dan Caine confirmed the nuclear sites suffered “extremely severe damage,” and Vice President JD Vance claimed Iran’s nuclear program has been “substantially delayed.”

Despite this military success, US officials have repeatedly stated that Washington is not seeking war. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the goal is to bring Iran back to the negotiating table. But Trump’s social media rhetoric—along with escalating tensions—has cast doubt on Washington’s true intentions.

Iran, outraged by what it calls a violation of its sovereignty, warned that diplomacy may now be off the table. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared the U.S. “fully responsible” for any Iranian response, while also condemning the strikes as crossing a “red line.”

The global response was swift. China, Russia, and Turkey condemned the strikes, warning of a wider conflict. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer moved military assets to protect British interests. Oil prices spiked amid fears Iran may close the Strait of Hormuz.

As diplomatic options dwindle, the world watches anxiously—uncertain whether the U.S. strikes will force Iran to negotiate or push the region toward a broader, more dangerous war.
