Manu Bhaker Shines with Historic Double Medal Win at Olympics

Manu Bhaker made history by becoming the first Indian athlete in the post-independence era to win two Olympic medals in a single edition of the Games. Teaming up with Sarabjot Singh, she clinched the 10m air pistol mixed team bronze on Tuesday. The Indian duo defeated Korea's Lee Wonoho and Oh Yeh Jin 16-10 at Chateauroux's shooting range.

Earlier, Bhaker, 22, won bronze in the women's 10m air pistol event, overcoming the disappointment of her Tokyo 2020 debut. Before her, British-Indian Norman Pritchard had won two silver medals in 1900, pre-Independence.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for women's sports in India and serves as redemption for Sarabjot, who missed the men's 10m air pistol final, finishing ninth with a score of 577. "I'm feeling really proud and grateful for all the blessings," Bhaker said. "We focused on doing our best and kept fighting till the end."

Sarabjot, from a farming family in Ambala, expressed relief, saying, "The game was tough and there was a lot of pressure, but I am very happy." Despite starting poorly, the Indians recovered, with Bhaker's consistency lifting Sarabjot’s performance. The duo overcame a 2-0 deficit, winning the next four rounds and ultimately defeating their rivals 16-10.
