IPL's Business Value Stands At $16.4 Billion

IPL's Business Value Stands At $16.4 Billion

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has significantly increased its financial footprint, reaching a business value of Rs 135,000 crore (US$16.4 billion), according to a recent report by global investment bank Houlihan Lokey. This marks a 6.5% growth over the past year, highlighting the league's robust global appeal and commercial strength.

Houlihan Lokey's 2024 IPL Brand Valuation Study reveals that the IPL's brand value has also risen by 6.3%, now standing at Rs 28,000 crore (US$3.4 billion). The report indicates that despite the Mumbai Indians' (MI) star-studded lineup, they are not the most valued team this year.

The title sponsorship of the IPL has been secured by the Tata Group for a five-year period (2024-2028) at approximately Rs 2,500 crore (US$300 million), which is about 50% higher than the previous deal. This, along with the lucrative media rights auction last year, underscores the IPL's importance as a premier platform for top brands.

Interestingly, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) holds the title of the most valued IPL franchise, with a brand value of US$231 million, despite not making the playoffs in 2024. CSK's brand value saw a 9% increase from the previous year. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), winners of the IPL 2024, experienced the highest growth in brand value, rising by 19.30% to US$216 million, placing them third overall.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ranks second with a brand value of US$227 million. Mumbai Indians, despite their legacy and the return of star player and new captain Hardik Pandya, are in fourth place with a brand value of US$204 million.

This comprehensive valuation highlights the evolving dynamics of IPL franchises and the league's burgeoning economic impact globally.
