India on Friday hailed the United States’ decision to designate The Resistance Front (TRF) — the Pakistan-backed group behind the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack — as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). The move was described by New Delhi as a crucial step forward in India-US counter-terrorism cooperation.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar took to social media to commend the designation, calling it a “strong affirmation of India-US counter-terrorism cooperation.” He thanked US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the Department of State for taking decisive action against TRF, a proxy group of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
“Zero tolerance for terrorism,” Jaishankar posted on X, noting that TRF had claimed responsibility for the brutal April 22 attack in Baisaran, a tourist destination near Pahalgam, where 25 tourists — including one Nepali national — lost their lives.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also issued a statement supporting the US decision. “India has consistently underscored the need for global action to dismantle terror infrastructure. The designation of TRF is a timely step and underscores the deepening Indo-US cooperation against terrorism,” the statement said.
The MEA reaffirmed India’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and reiterated its intent to work closely with international partners to bring terrorist groups and their proxies to justice.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the designation reflects the Trump administration’s commitment to global security. “These actions demonstrate our resolve to counter terrorism and ensure accountability for the Pahalgam attack,” his statement read.
The TRF’s listing marks a significant diplomatic and security development, reinforcing joint efforts to isolate and punish state-sponsored terror networks operating from across the border.
