Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing counterattack in Parliament on Tuesday, targeting senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram for his remarks questioning the origins of the terrorists behind the Pahalgam massacre. Accusing the Congress of giving Pakistan a "clean chit," Shah said, “When Chidambaram asks for proof, it means he's trying to shield Pakistan. Why save Pakistan?”
Shah confirmed that the three terrorists killed in Monday’s joint military-police operation in Kashmir were directly linked to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that left 26 civilians dead. “I thought the Opposition would be relieved that the perpetrators have been neutralized. But they seem disturbed instead,” he said.
Detailing the operation, Shah revealed that Pakistani-made chocolates and identity cards were recovered from the bodies. He added that forensic analysis of the weapons used — an American M9 and Russian AK-47s — confirmed their involvement in the Pahalgam attack. “Six forensic experts confirmed this to me via video call this morning,” Shah stated.
Raising the political stakes, Shah said, “The Congress has no moral right to question our security response. In their time, they responded to terror attacks by sending dossiers. We have sent a message with bullets, not files.”
Responding to allegations of communal targeting, Shah condemned the barbarity of the attack. “These terrorists identified victims by their religion and gunned them down in front of families. The Opposition should stop politicizing and start standing with the country,” he thundered.
Drawing applause from the Treasury benches, Shah accused the Opposition of “mourning the death of terrorists” instead of showing solidarity with the victims. “The nation wants action. We have delivered justice,” he declared, reaffirming the government’s commitment to national security and zero tolerance toward terrorism.
