6 Feared Dead in the US Bridge Collapse

Six individuals are feared dead following a ship collision with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, US, causing it to collapse into the water. The incident occurred when the container ship Dali, operated by an Indian crew, lost power temporarily and collided with the bridge. Although all 22 crew members were safe, six repairmen working on the bridge were reported missing.

Authorities have discontinued rescue operations, presuming the missing individuals perished in the collision. US Coast Guard Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath stated that due to extensive search efforts, water temperature, and time elapsed, chances of finding survivors are slim.

The Indian Embassy in the US expressed condolences and established a helpline for affected Indian citizens. The ship, experiencing propulsion issues, sent a distress call before the crash, alerting bridge officials to halt traffic. The collision resulted in vehicles and people plunging into the river.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore praised officials for averting further casualties by halting traffic. Despite social media speculations of a cyber attack, FBI and US agencies found no evidence of terrorism.

Search operations have ceased, but patrols continue. The port's closure and traffic diversions will impact vehicular movement and shipping due to debris.

Authorities declared a state of emergency and monitor for potential fuel spills.
