In a passionate intervention during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the government of a grave security lapse that led to the Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 civilians were brutally murdered on April 22. She questioned how a bustling tourist destination like Baisaran Valley was left entirely unguarded, calling it a “massive intelligence failure.”
“The Defence Minister spoke of national security, but skipped one crucial question — why did the attack happen in the first place?” she said. Narrating the harrowing account of victim Shubham Dwivedi, she recalled how he was killed in front of his wife while children played nearby. “Not a single security personnel was present. The government left them bhagwan bharose,” she said, demanding accountability from the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister, and NSA.
Taking aim at the government’s narrative that terrorism in Kashmir was finished, she pointed out that just weeks before the attack, Amit Shah claimed victory over militancy in the region. “If everything was under control, how did four armed terrorists move freely among civilians?” she asked.
Drawing parallels to the 2008 Mumbai attacks, she highlighted how then Home Minister and Maharashtra CM resigned over the tragedy. “Accountability was shown then. Why not now?” she said.
She questioned why it took three years for The Resistance Front to be officially designated a terrorist group and slammed the government for allegedly prioritizing PR over truth. She also criticized Donald Trump’s statement on brokering a ceasefire, saying it highlighted the government’s failure to control the narrative.
Ending her address, she solemnly read out the names of the 26 victims. “They were not numbers. They were lives lost under your watch. We owe them justice,” she said.
