NIA crackdown anti-terror modules across the country

NIA crackdown anti-terror modules across the country

On Wednesday, the National Investigative Agency (NIA) carried out extensive raids at 51 locations spread across six states in India in connection with a crackdown on a terror-gangster network with alleged links to Canada. The operations targeted three distinct cases involving associates of notorious figures: Lawrence Bishnoi, Bambiha, and Arsh Dalla gangs, as stated by an NIA official.

During these coordinated raids, authorities apprehended an associate associated with the Arsh Dalla gang. It's worth noting that Lawrence Bishnoi is currently incarcerated, Arshdeep Singh, alias Arsh Dalla, has sought refuge in Canada, and Davinder Bambiha met his demise in a police encounter in Punjab back in 2016.

The NIA's focus on dismantling this network, particularly its connections with syndicates and criminals in Canada, coincides with an ongoing diplomatic dispute between India and Canada. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently stirred controversy by asserting the existence of "credible" information linking "agents of Delhi" to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June. Nijjar held Canadian citizenship.

India promptly dismissed this allegation as "absurd" and emphasized that Canadian authorities had yet to share any evidence supporting these claims. India's Foreign Minister, S Jaishankar, also highlighted a surge in "organized crime relating to secessionist forces and extremism" within Canada.

These NIA raids underscore the Indian government's commitment to combating transnational criminal and terror networks, especially those with links to Canada, amid the ongoing diplomatic tensions. The investigations are part of India's broader efforts to maintain security and counteract the influence of such networks both domestically and internationally.
