Mahindra Thar Roxx hits the market

Mahindra has officially unveiled the highly anticipated Thar Roxx 5-door SUV, marking a significant evolution in the Thar lineup, four years after the launch of the new-generation Thar 3-door model. Set to be one of the most talked-about car launches of 2024, the Thar Roxx aims to captivate potential buyers with its rugged appeal, enhanced practicality, and a host of new features.

Priced at ?12.99 lakh for the base petrol variant and ?13.99 lakh for the base diesel variant, the Thar Roxx is positioned as a versatile off-roader with a broader appeal. Mid and top-spec variant prices are expected to be announced soon.

The Thar Roxx sports several design changes, including a distinctive slanted roof and triangular rear quarter glass, which have sparked mixed reactions online. The SUV also features new alloy wheels and square-shaped rear wheel arches, a departure from the circular arches of the 3-door model. These design tweaks give the Thar Roxx a unique profile, especially in its hard-top trim.

Under the hood, the Thar Roxx offers two engine options: a 2.0L turbo-petrol available in 160 Hp and 170 Hp variants, and a 2.2L turbo-diesel in 132 Hp and 171 Hp versions. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic.

For off-road enthusiasts, the Thar Roxx is equipped with advanced suspension and drivetrain features, including Scorpio-N-derived FSD shock absorbers, a penta-link suspension setup, electronic brake-locking differential at the front, and a mechanically locking rear differential. Additional off-road capabilities include a low-ratio transfer case, offroad crawl control, and intelli-turn assist. With impressive approach, breakover, and departure angles, and a water-wading depth of 650 mm, the Thar Roxx is ready for challenging terrains.

Though it might compete with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, the Thar Roxx essentially creates its own niche, standing as a robust, feature-packed SUV with no direct rivals.
