Iran Launches Over 100 Drones at Israel Amid Escalating Retaliation

Tensions in the Middle East surged further as Iran launched over 100 drones toward Israel in a retaliatory strike, following Israeli airstrikes on Tehran earlier this week. Brigadier General Effie Deffrin, chief spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), confirmed the development, stating that “all the defense systems are acting to intercept the threats.”

General Deffrin also revealed that nearly 200 Israeli fighter jets have been deployed in response, striking approximately 100 targets across Iran and affiliated militia strongholds. “Our operations are ongoing. We are determined to neutralize the threat at its source,” he added.

The Iranian drone offensive is seen as a direct reprisal for Israel’s reported precision strikes on high-value sites in Tehran, which Iranian officials have labeled a violation of sovereignty and an act of war.

As the situation unfolds, regional airspaces are tightening. Jordan’s Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission announced a complete closure of Jordanian airspace for all flights. According to the state-run Jordan News Agency, this measure is “temporary and precautionary,” driven by concerns over potential spillover risks from the conflict.

The Jordanian move follows similar steps by other neighboring countries, as civil aviation authorities across the region reassess flight safety amid fears of escalation.

The confrontation comes against a backdrop of simmering hostilities between Israel and Iran, fueled by broader regional tensions and a complex network of proxy conflicts. International observers warn that a further intensification could draw in additional regional actors and risk a broader conflict across the Middle East.

While Israeli defense systems, including Iron Dome and Arrow, are reportedly intercepting multiple inbound drones, concerns remain about the scale of the Iranian retaliation and the possibility of further escalation in the coming days.
