A newly formed grassroots organization, Hindus for America First, has announced its endorsement of Republican candidate Donald Trump for the 2024 U.S. presidential race. The group's chairman and founder, Utsav Sanduja, expressed concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris, stating that her leadership could be "destabilizing for Indo-US relations."
Sanduja highlighted Harris's potential to appoint liberal judges who might reverse key Supreme Court decisions, which could negatively affect Asian-American communities. He also criticized the Biden-Harris administration for its handling of border security, citing increased crime and drug trafficking as consequences of illegal immigration. According to Sanduja, these issues disproportionately impact Asian-American business owners.
In contrast, Sanduja praised Trump’s immigration policies, particularly efforts to make the system more merit-based. He emphasized Trump's strong ties with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his support for bolstering India’s defense capabilities in countering China. “Trump is very pro-India,” Sanduja remarked, pointing out the former president's non-interference in India's internal affairs, unlike Harris, whom he accused of making "disparaging remarks" about the Indian government.
Hindus for America First has launched a campaign targeting battleground states such as Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, rallying Hindu voters against Harris. Sanduja also raised concerns about the ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh, calling for political leaders to address the issue.
He credited Trump’s leadership for the U.S. government's recognition of the persecution of Hindus in regions like Afghanistan and Pakistan, calling it a significant achievement during his presidency.
