Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Visits India, Boosting Strategic Partnership

Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, arrived in New Delhi for his first official visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. He was welcomed by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, who accorded a ceremonial reception at the airport. This marks the Crown Prince's first visit to India in his new role, accompanied by several UAE Ministers and a business delegation.

During his two-day visit, Sheikh Khaled is set to engage in high-level talks aimed at enhancing the already strong bilateral ties between India and the UAE. On September 9, he will meet Prime Minister Modi to discuss a wide range of areas for cooperation, focusing on expanding the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations. The discussions are expected to cover sectors such as trade, investment, energy, technology, and education.

Sheikh Khaled is also scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. On September 10, he will travel to Mumbai to participate in a business forum where Indian and UAE business leaders will explore opportunities to deepen economic ties.

India and the UAE share a historically close relationship, which has been elevated to new heights in recent years. In 2017, the bilateral relationship was formally upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during a visit by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The UAE has become one of India’s key economic partners, with trade between the two countries reaching USD 85 billion in 2022. The UAE is now India’s third-largest trading partner and second-largest export destination.

In January 2023, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited India, further cementing ties with discussions on strengthening the strategic partnership. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UAE in July 2023—his fifth visit to the country since 2015—reinforced this growing relationship. His 2015 trip was the first by an Indian Prime Minister to the UAE in 34 years, signifying a major turning point in bilateral ties.

With the Crown Prince's current visit, India and the UAE are expected to explore new avenues of collaboration in emerging sectors, building on their shared vision for growth and development in both nations.
