CERT-In, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, has initiated an investigation into the Apple threat notification issue raised by opposition Members of Parliament (MPs), with a notice sent to the company, according to IT Secretary S. Krishnan. He hoped Apple would cooperate with CERT-In's investigation into the matter.
The controversy arose when several opposition leaders, including Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Shashi Tharoor, Pawan Khera, and others, received alerts from Apple warning them of "state-sponsored attackers trying to compromise" their iPhones remotely. They alleged government-sponsored hacking, a claim that was refuted by IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who assured a comprehensive inquiry.
CERT-In, as the national agency responsible for responding to computer security incidents, is now taking the lead in examining the situation. It is crucial for Apple to collaborate with the investigation to shed light on the matter.
The issue has drawn significant attention, with the involvement of prominent political figures. The probe by CERT-In will aim to determine the veracity of the threat notifications and the extent of any potential security breaches, clarifying the situation surrounding the alleged state-sponsored hacking.
