John and Diana Go on Parmanu Pride Parade in Delhiby Opinion Express May 24, 2018 0 comments
John Abraham and Diana Penty took a ride on an open jeep in Delhi’s Connaught Place – Inner Circle to promote their upcoming film Parmanu – The Story of Pokhran
It was a fusion like no other. Not of the nuclear variety though. A huge crowd gathered in the heart of Delhi, Connaught Place, to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars, John Abraham and Diana Penty who arrived in an open, black jeep on a hot summer evening when temperatures were soaring up to 44 degree Celsius. But they showed no signs of discomfort as they waved and smiled and also posed for selfies with their fans while happily going around the inner circle of CP in a bid to promote Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran among the masses.
What was called the Parmanu Pride Parade — a clever promotional strategy by the makers in order to attract eyeballs as well as connect with the masses — was aimed at saluting the contributions and the joint efforts made by the Indian army, scientists, intelligence agencies and bureaucrats, who came together to make India a nuclear superpower in 1998. According to a source, “As opposed to the notion of people taking to the streets only for protests or appeals, for once, John and his film’s team wanted India to walk the streets for the simple reason of being proud of our nation. John appealed to everyone, especially the youth of the country, to be a part of this parade through his social media handles.”
The actor himself revealed that the motive behind this parade was to instill a sense of self-pride, something which is considered not worthy of talking about. “I am glad to see people carrying banners which inculcate the feeling of nationalism. We have reached a point where we can be a superpower in the world. It feels great to be among people where so many of them are students and the national flag behind me adds up to it. It’s a proud moment for me.” Said Diana, “The nuclear test which India conducted in 1998 is a matter of pride for me and the country. We are happy to celebrate it with all these people around us. A huge crowd has shown up, supporting us in this endeavour and our fans who respect us have made sure to be a part of this parade.”
The stars were followed by an array of bikers with the majority of them carrying banners and placards which had messages including Jai Jawaan Jai Vigyan, Parmanu-The Battle Without Bloodshed, A Mission That Made India Proud and many more. Even though the Delhi Police had closed a section of the inner circle for the parade, fan frenzy was seen when several pedestrians started running and walking alongside the star’s jeep to capture them with their smartphones.
It is of course another story that the said fans had to be controlled by the bouncers when they got too close to the vehicle of John and Diana in order to ensure the safety. Owing to an unmanageable crowd, the parade took a round of the inner circle before heading back to the hotel on Ashoka Road.
