US Vice President JD Vance arrived in New Delhi on Sunday morning, marking the start of his four-day official visit to India. Accompanied by his wife, Indian-American Second Lady Usha Vance, and a high-level delegation, Mr. Vance was received at the Palam Technical Area by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and accorded a tri-services guard of honour.
This is Mr. Vance's maiden visit to India since assuming office. His engagements aim to bolster India-US relations, with a particular focus on finalising a long-discussed bilateral trade pact and deepening strategic cooperation.
Later today, Vice President Vance will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Talks are expected to address key areas including defence collaboration, economic partnerships, and regional security dynamics. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will also join the discussions.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit provides a platform to review progress since the February 13 India-US Joint Statement and to deliberate on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
The Vice President’s itinerary also includes visits to Jaipur and Agra, blending diplomacy with cultural engagement. On Tuesday, he is set to tour the historic Amer Palace in Jaipur, followed by a keynote address at the US-India Business Summit at the Rajasthan International Centre. The summit will gather top officials and business leaders to discuss trade, investment, and innovation partnerships.
On Wednesday, Mr. Vance will visit the Taj Mahal in Agra before returning to Jaipur to explore the City Palace. He is scheduled to meet Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Governor Haribhau Bagade on April 22.
Vice President Vance will conclude his visit and depart for Washington on Thursday.
