Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, voiced strong support for China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), urging that such connectivity projects not be viewed through a "narrow political prism." This remark was a clear reference to India's resistance to endorsing the BRI, particularly the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which passes through Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, violating India's territorial integrity.

Sharif emphasized the importance of expanding initiatives like the BRI, stating, "Let us not look at such projects through a narrow political prism, and invest in our collective connectivity capacities." India, however, has consistently opposed the CPEC, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighting in his address the need for trade and connectivity initiatives to respect territorial integrity and sovereignty.

In addition to regional connectivity, Sharif condemned Israeli actions in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds as its capital.

Sharif urged SCO member states to strengthen their cooperation to tackle regional challenges, calling the organization a "collective voice" representing over 40% of the global population. He highlighted the potential for SCO nations to enhance socio-economic development, regional peace, and stability.

Sharif also called for greater collaboration on issues such as poverty alleviation, climate change, and women’s and youth empowerment. He urged the Taliban government in Afghanistan to ensure that its territory is not used for terrorism, while noting Afghanistan’s trade and transit potential.
