Sanju New Poster: Meet Dia Mirza As Sanjay Dutt’s Wife Maanyataby Opinion Express June 19, 2018 0 comments
Team Sanju is dropping surprise after surprise in the form of new posters. On Thursday, a new poster featuring Dia Mirza was released. Dia Mirza plays the role of Sanjay Dutt’s wife Maanyata in the biopic, someone who stood by Sanju through thick and thin.
Actress Dia Mirza, who donned the acting hat after two years to play Sanjay Dutt’s wife Maanyata in Rajkumar Hirani’s film, was “terrified the night before the shoot.” With Ranbir Kapoor at the other end and expectations running at an all-time high to do justice to the life of one of the leading lights of the film fraternity, she thought no prep was enough and that she couldn’t reduce anything to a flat board personality. Or a caricature.
“I had a bunch of nerves, was anxious to deliver and scared about things like forgetting my lines,” she told us. She further added that she had been “waiting for a good opportunity for some time and in the interim refused roles that were not up to the mark”.
Dia, who has worked with Sanjay Dutt and Hirani in Lage Raho Munna Bhai, said that shooting for Sanju, which has a star-studded cast, was a “fantastic journey”. After working with the original Sanju, she finds Ranbir’s portrayal of him laudable. “He looks at par and the way he picked up the body language and style, is commendable. I believe that Ranbir is a very sincere actor and his honesty to the role is phenomenal,” she said.
Playing Maanyata, who has stood by Dutt in the most testing times and who exactly wasn’t visible enough, Dia said, “I ensured that I had access to every bit of information that would give me the ability to feel the full extent of what she may have felt. Raju sir had done an incredible job with the research for my part because of which understanding her (Maanyata’s) nature and the circumstances that she faced were simplified for me”.
The movie also stars Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal and Vicky Kaushal. “It was a pleasure working with all of them,” said Dia. Describing her bonding with them on the sets, she gushed, “Anushka is an incredible person to work with. I had a lot of fun working with her. I really didn’t have any interaction with Sonam in the film but I’ve known her well for years and I’ve always admired her work. I’ve long loved and admired Manisha ji and Paresh ji; they’re remarkable actors. And finally, Vicky is such a brilliant actor. It was refreshing to be around each and every one of them.”
Apart from her acting skills, Dia is also known as a champion for the cause of the environment. In November 2017, she was appointed as the United Nations Environment Goodwill Ambassador for India, a responsibility she takes seriously even today. “Even though I’ve been a part of environmental and social work for the past 10 years, after being appointed as the (United Nations Environment) ambassador for India, it has widened my horizons by giving me access to engage with people who can actually change policies and implement them. It has also given the work that I’ve done in the past, a more solid platform,” she said.
“I believe that as a society and as citizens of this country, we all have a responsibility towards our nation in creating an atmosphere of cleanliness and beauty for everyone.”
