PM Modi, President Trump Strengthen India-US Ties with Strategic Initiatives


Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held high-level talks at the White House, focusing on defence, trade, technology, energy, and multilateral cooperation. Their discussions resulted in major agreements aimed at deepening India-US strategic collaboration.

The leaders unveiled COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology), emphasizing a ten-year defence framework. Key highlights include:

Expansion of US defence platforms in India, including Javelin anti-tank missiles, Stryker combat vehicles, and six additional P-8I maritime surveillance aircraft. A policy review on India's access to fifth-generation fighter jets and undersea warfare systems. The launch of the Autonomous Systems Industry Alliance (ASIA) to co-develop advanced underwater domain awareness (UDA) technologies. Joint development of Sea Picket Autonomous Surveillance Systems, Large Diameter Autonomous Undersea Vehicles, and Triton Autonomous Vehicles. Trade and Economic Growth. The leaders set a "Mission 500" target to boost bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030. Key agreements include:

A Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by 2025 to resolve tariffs and expand market access. Recognition of $7.3 billion Indian investments in the US, supporting 3,000 jobs.
Expansion of Indian pharmaceutical manufacturing in the US. Technology and Energy Partnerships. India and the US launched the TRUST Initiative (Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology) to drive AI, biotechnology, and space innovation. 

The INDUS Innovation Program to advance academic-industry research by expansion of rare earth mineral processing for high-tech industries. Strengthening the India-US Civil Nuclear Agreement to develop small modular reactors. Multilateral and Security Cooperation. Both nations condemned Pakistan’s failure to act against terrorism, announcing the extradition of 26/11 convict Tahawwur Rana. India will host President Trump at the next Quad Summit, reinforcing Indo-Pacific security.

With growing trade and defence partnerships, India and the US reaffirmed their "MEGA" vision—Mutually Empowered Growth Alliance—for a stronger global future.
